David's Army: raising giant killers

David's Army

Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, who else handles it, and the choices you have. Written plainly, because most of the people reading it are teenagers and their parents.

David's Army is the youth ministry of David's Christian Centre. This policy covers thedavidsarmy.com and the emails we send. If anything here is unclear, ask us using the details in section 11.

1Who we are

The organisation responsible for your information, the data controller, is David's Christian Centre. In this policy “we”, “us” and “our” mean David's Army and David's Christian Centre.

2The short version

  • We only ask for what we need: usually your first name and email address.
  • We use it to send you what you asked for, and, if you sign up for a resource or a webinar, to tell you about new ones. Every email has a way to unsubscribe.
  • We never sell or rent your information.
  • Payments are handled by Paystack. We never see or store your card details.
  • The counselling quiz stores nothing. What you share in a booking goes to the General you book with.
  • You can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete what we hold about you.

4Children and teenagers

David's Army serves teenagers, and we take particular care with their information. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act anyone under 18 is a child, and we need the consent of a parent or guardian before handling a child's personal information.

  • If you are under 18, please check with a parent or guardian before you give us your email address or book a counselling session. Our forms remind you of this.
  • For counselling bookings, we ask anyone under 18 to confirm that a parent or guardian agrees before the session is booked.
  • If a parent or guardian believes we hold their child's information without their consent, contact us and we will delete it.

5Emails and the mailing list

When you ask for a free resource or sign up for a webinar, we add you to the David's Army mailing list, and we tell you so on the form before you press the button. We use it to share new resources, webinars and news from the ministry. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you. Emails that deliver something you asked for, such as a resource link, a webinar join link or a receipt, are sent whether or not you are on the list.

6Who else handles your information

We use a small number of trusted services to run the site. They handle your information only to provide their service to us, under their own security and privacy commitments.

  • Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France): sends our emails and holds the mailing list and webinar sign-up lists.
  • Paystack (Nigeria): processes payments. Your card details go to Paystack, never to us.
  • Cal.com (United States): runs counselling booking calendars.
  • Clerk (United States): runs sign-in for the Leader Portal.
  • Vercel (United States, with servers worldwide): hosts the website.
  • Cloudways: hosts the system the church uses to edit the site, in the United Kingdom.
  • Google Maps: shows the map on our Find Us page. Google may set its own cookies if you use the map.

We never sell, rent or trade your information. We may share it if the law requires us to, or to protect someone who is in danger.

7Information sent outside Nigeria

Some of the services above store information outside Nigeria, in the European Union and the United States. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards the Nigeria Data Protection Act allows, such as the provider's data protection agreements and standard contractual protections, so your information stays protected to the standard Nigerian law expects.

8How long we keep it

  • Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
  • Webinar sign-up lists: 12 months after the webinar, then deleted.
  • Payment records: 6 years, because financial records must be kept for tax and accounting purposes.
  • Counselling bookings: as long as the General needs them for your care.
  • Server logs: a short period set by our host, usually days, for security only.

9Keeping it safe

All traffic to the site is encrypted. Links that deliver resources are signed so they cannot be forged, and expire after 30 days. The keys to our email, payment and sign-in services are held only on our servers, never in the pages you see. Only the people who need access to run the ministry have it. If a breach ever put your information at risk, we would report it to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, and tell you without undue delay.

10Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you have the right to:

  • Ask what information we hold about you and get a copy of it.
  • Have inaccurate information corrected.
  • Have your information deleted when we no longer need it, or when you withdraw consent.
  • Ask us to limit how we use your information, or object to us using it, including for mailing list emails.
  • Receive your information in a format you can take elsewhere.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time. This does not affect what we did before you withdrew it.
  • Complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng).

To use any of these rights, write to us using the details below. We will reply within one month. We may ask you to confirm who you are before we act, so we never hand someone else's information to the wrong person.

11Contact us

Email: hello@thedavidsarmy.com

If you would rather write to us, email us and we will give you a postal address.

If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

12Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell people on our mailing list.
